On Thursday 15th February, staff at Silverlock Medical Centre held a patient education event all about cervical screening.
At this event, our nursing team spoke with patients about their fears and concerns around cervical screening. Patients who were previously scared and hesitant to have their screening test booked their appointments after our teams explained the importance of the procedure to them.
Lots of patients attended the event, some even had their smear test on the day or booked to come back for their appointment. The team were extremely happy to see that their reassuring, kindness and encouragement meant that more patients have had this vital test.
The staff received some really positive feedback from the patients. We are all very glad that they could encourage people to understand how important it is to have their smear test done.
Here’s what some of our patients said about the event and our practice:
“Thank you for being here to help the community! We are so grateful to have the NHS. When I first came to this practice, I thought it was a private GP, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could manage everything in the same day!”
“I’ve always found it easy to get an appointment, and both the administrative staff and clinicians are incredible! The experience I wanted to share is about my journey to find my cervix. I’ve been to many GPs in the past, but none of them could find it. That’s when I registered Silverlock Medical Centre and met Nurse Rachel. She not only found my cervix but also managed to do my smear test. I can’t thank her enough for her expertise and dedication.”
We would like to give a big shout out to our amazing colleagues, Assistant Practice Manager Lauren and Administrator Roumaissa for organising the education event and putting everything together. We’d also like to thank our lovely nursing team Rachel, Madeleine and Amy for being incredibly helpful throughout the event. The transformation in patient’s confidence in having a smear test after the event was incredible. Thank you to Dr On too for talking with some of our patients!
This was just the first event for this year, and the staff are excited to say that there are many more to come. Watch this space!
